The City of Napa Parks & Recreation Services Department fully renovated and re-opened Playground Fantástico Park, located off Old Sonoma Road and Freeway Drive, on November 2, 2019 after twelve months of park closure to allow for re-design and major renovation.
The renovation project involved a variety of stakeholders both from the City of Napa and the local community. In 2018, City staff started an extensive design process with local community residents who represented a variety of youth-oriented groups. The Planning Committee included a diverse set of stakeholders including representatives from the Parks & Recreation Department, School District, Education Foundation, Napa Valley Kid, CRC, Napa Moms, ParentsCAN and Private Citizens from the Original Build including Matt Eisenberg, Dan Wodarcyk and Lisa and Matt Lombardi, as well as the playground consultants – Landscape Structures and Ross Recreation. This kicked off an intensive effort to assess all areas of the park and identify renovation opportunities while meeting the goals of the project.
The playground equipment was provided by Landscape Structures, Inc, located in Delano, MN, and the construction was led by Ross Recreation. The total project costs totaled to approximately $850,000 and funding was jointly supported by the City of Napa, the Napa Parks and Recreation Foundation, the Napa Valley Education Foundation, the Freed Family Fund of the Napa Valley Community Foundation, and private individual donors.
